My break into tech was via an internship. I'm a big believer in opportunities like this and later in my career I've found working with young, earnest talent particularly enjoyable.

How we began:
Techintern.io started during the pandemic when we saw strong software developer students have their internships cancelled. At the same time, certain tech startups were getting a lot of funding and aggressively hiring. We were also inspired by the University of Waterloo's co-op program and hope to bring regular internship opportunities to talented students from all backgrounds.
How it works:
We connect directly with the best student developers interested in working at startups. We source them through our network of club leads at colleges and student organizations. This term we are also expanding to smaller colleges and alternate education programs to open up internship opportunities to everyone, not just students from x, y, or z.
Students opt into companies in hiring rounds about once a month. This way, companies get all their details together so that they can reach out, batch interviews and hire within weeks. We've worked with companies of less than 10 people like AudioFocus, where a more experienced intern taking a contractor-like role was the best fit, all the way up to a multinational tech company like Afterpay.
We see interns as the best way to expand the tech hiring pipeline as well as find passionate builders for your company. It's also a great way to expand your team's horizons with new perspectives.
