Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I'm Harish, the maker of TalkToGitHub, and I’m beyond excited to share it with you!
As a developer, I’ve spent countless hours digging through GitHub repos, trying to make sense of unfamiliar codebases, buried documentation, and tangled dependencies. Sound familiar? 😩
That’s exactly why I built TalkToGitHub - an AI-powered tool that lets you chat directly with any public GitHub repository.
💬 What it does:
Ask technical questions about any GitHub repo and get instant, AI-generated answers.
Understand a project’s architecture, dependencies, and key components in seconds - no deep diving required.
Perfect for onboarding, code reviews, exploring open source, or just satisfying your curiosity.
⚡ Why it's useful:
Saves time and energy deciphering complex codebases.
Helps you get productive faster with any new project.
No need to read tons of README files or dig through code manually.
🧪 Try it out - Completely Free!
No sign-up, no API key - just paste a repo link and start chatting:
👉 TalkToGitHub
Or you can just add the "talkto" prefix to any GitHub URL!
For example:
"github.com/{owner}/{repo}" → "talktogithub.com/{owner}/{repo}"
Would love your feedback, thoughts, or feature requests. I’m building this for developers like you 😃, and your input means a lot. Let’s talk! 🙌
Cheers,
Harish
@harish3304 Super cool! How does it handle repos with multiple services or microservices setups?
@masump Great question! If the microservices are spread across different repositories, the tool currently doesn't have a way of automatically understanding the specific relationships or nuances between them unless those connections are explicitly mentioned in the README or documentation. However, it is smart enough to recognize a service as a microservice and understand that it's part of a larger architecture.
On the other hand, if all the services are within the same repository, it’s a much smoother process. The tool can automatically identify the connections between the services, even without explicit details being provided.
@jheyanth_cs Thank you so much, really appreciate the kind words! 🙏
Right now, the focus is purely on providing value and seeing how people actually use it. As for sustainability, I'm exploring a few ideas: possibly a freemium model for power users (like faster responses, more in-depth repo analysis, etc.), API access for teams, or lightweight paid plans for private repositories in the future and possibly BYOK support.
But for now, it's 100% free while I focus on learning, improving, and making sure it genuinely solves a real need.
Would love to hear any thoughts you have on what would make it valuable enough to pay for!
Such a creative use of AI! 🚀 Turning static repos into interactive convos could unlock a whole new way to onboard contributors. Big congrats!
@a789 Thank you so much! 🙏 I'm really excited about how this can help create more engaging and seamless experiences for developers. The goal is to make repositories more accessible and interactive for everyone, especially new contributors. Appreciate the kind words and support! 🚀
