Scan the quality of your playbooks and get recommendations on how to improve them. Spotter helps you simplify and accelerate your automation with improved playbooks that guarantee reliable execution.
Hey PH Community 👋
The team at Steampunk spent the last year putting blood, sweat, and tears (of joy 😉) into shaping the ultimate helper for your Ansible automation.
Keeping your content up-to-date with the latest Ansible version is essential (but time-consuming) work. Without it, you're risking unreliable execution and downtime. That's why we're happy to introduce Steampunk Spotter. With this assisted automation writing tool, you can quickly check if your existing playbooks are compatible with the latest Ansible version and get recommendations on potential issues and caveats while updating your environment.
Here's how Spotter can support your work:
- Avoid common playbook anti-patterns,
- structure playbooks for readability, collaboration, and ease of use,
- easily identify name changes and redirects,
- make sure you're using certified and approved modules,
- make sure you're using correct parameters and quickly identify invalid configurations. 🤔
Who is it for?
1. Playbook developers can: verify playbook templates and examples, check Ansible core and Collection versions compatibility, understand the implications of Ansible upgrades.
2. Quality Assurance Managers can: what will happen when they run the playbook, best practices and what-if scenarios. 3. Operations Managers can: identify potential vulnerabilities, and receive quality reports and recommendations.
How can you use Spotter?
Choose between these three scanning options:
- you can scan local playbooks using CLI tool,
- you can scan public git repositories using the Spotter app,
- you scan playbooks in GitHub through GitHub Actions integration.
Hint: Using CLI tool also brings a welcoming rewrite function, which enables you to automatically apply proposed fixes, saving you additional time and hassle. ;)
