Hey Everyone,
today I want to suggest a special Spotify project, very interesting indeed. Happy listening and discovery.
About Listening Together
It started as an experiment in 2014, when media artist Kyle McDonald had the idea of finding the “serendipity” of two listeners pressing play on the same song within milliseconds of each other.
Fast forward to seven years later, and Spotify has hundreds of millions of listeners around the world. And the power of the original idea inspired us to once again look into the data.
When we did we found that now, every second, more than 30,000 people start playing the same song as someone they’d never met.
Listening connects us, sometimes if we know it or not.
It's a great idea @juliusdesign, well done!
First question comes to my mind is that why not let me find another user who is listening to the same music as me right now? It would be even more amazing!
@juliusdesign@khannavid Absolutely! I was looking for this, so I could match with someone around the world listening to the same tracks - and maybe say hello? :)
@juliusdesign@khannavid@obliterator I think you should check out https://tunemeet.com pretty much does exactly what you described: Matches you with person who is listening to the same song right now. We will be launching it later this week in Product Hunt as well.
@olli_ Thank you! I will definitely check it out! We want to throw a little party this weekend, along with the participants of Lightining in a Bottle, a cool EDM festival that was supposed to happen this weekend, but got cancelled :(
This will help me get the songs aligned and get everybody rocking on the same tunes! :)
Well done, @juliusdesign. Music is a powerful tool for bringing people together.
Related to this, I watched this Music Explained video by Vox last night which touches on the science of music:
