Splitstack makes server-side split testing easier. You can test the full-stack in a matter of clicks, launching experiments that have a real impact on your bottom line, not just fancy button colors.
Hi PH 👋 And thanks @robjama for hunting us 😄
We’ve built Splitstack, a micro SaaS that aims to make server-side split testing accessible and easier to implement, first of all to solve our pain point.
We run a performance marketing agency, so we continuously run tests to improve conversion rates for our clients.
We strongly believe that the most effective way to run tests that have a real impact is by implementing them server-side and not client-side.
Client-side tools are good for many cases, but they have big cons:
🔴 They are very bad for the UX of your visitors, because they either get exposed to the "flicker effect" (if you use asynchronous JavaScript) or (if you use synchronous JavaScript) the page loading can become too long. This is particularly true on mobile devices, which are more sensitive to slower websites (considering that nowaday the vast majority of the traffic comes from mobile, this is a big issue).
🔴 They are completely inefficient for modern Single Page Applications, which serve dynamic content.
🔴 Probably the most important reason: you really can't test the full stack, meaning you can just edit button colors, copy, images....We often need to test different checkout flows or completely different backend logics, which you simply can't do with client-side tools.
On the other hand, many server-side solutions that we’ve tried:
🔴 Are way too expensive.
🔴 They require you to know your stuff around coding in the server. This slows down the testing cycle, because marketers need to get their IT department involved.
🔴 Are often over-featured, so you end up using just a fraction of what you’ve paid for.
We felt there was a space in the market for a simpler solution, so we decided to build Splitstack.
The goal is to give everyone the ability to implement server-side tests in a few clicks, without any coding knowledge and at an affordable price (the monthly plan of Splistack is 15$ billed annually).
How does it work?
We use a proxy-server methodology that makes everything simple:
✅ You enter the URLs you want to test out (the control and the variations).
✅ You decide how we should split the traffic between your URLs.
✅ You place the pixel code where the conversion event happens (you can use GTM or any other tag management solution you prefer).
And you’re good to go!
We’ll give you back a single URL where you can send the traffic and we’ll take care of running the test.
You will be able to track conversions, clicks and a bunch of other metrics and we’ll also tell you when the test has reached statistical significance.
You can use Splitstack in basically every kind of scenario (advertising, newsletters, landing pages, etc), the only traffic we’re not able to split at the moment is the organic traffic coming to your site.
Finally, we decided to keep Splistack cookie-free, we use an anonymized fingerprint solution to track the user’s journey.
Hopefully you will find it useful, let us know!
