Hi Hunters,
TLDR for this Medium post: https://medium.com/@SofaPlayApp/...
- SofaPlay for Mac is a UPnP/DLNA streaming app to stream movies and videos from your Mac to your Smart TV (Samsung, LG, Xbox 360/One …).
- UPnP/DLNA support is often buggy, hard to debug and sometimes just not implemented right by Smart TV manufacturers.
- We built SofaPlay TV, a client for Apple TV using the same UPnP/DLNA standard to control the whole experience.
- With this vertical integration, we can get the whole experience right.
- SofaPlay TV is as simple as possible.
- Open the app on both your Mac and Apple TV
- It connects (there is a nice *bling* sound. …)
- On your Mac, just drag and drop a file into SofaPlay.
- It begins playing on your (Apple) TV.
If you have any questions or feedback, I would be more than happy to answer them :-)
@tomflemming As far as I know, Beamer uses Apple's AirPlay to stream to Apple TV. AirPlay only supports a few video codecs, all other are transcoded by Beamer in the background. This isn't an optimal solution.
VLC is totally fine. We just wanted to make a really easy and simple solution that works for most of our users :-)
