Thanks for checking out Smart Dictation! 🎙️ This app is different from other transcription tools, it uses OpenAI’s new GPT-4o transcribe model (the update on Whisper) for faster, more accurate results. It also supports translation and summarization in one seamless flow. Built for macOS with simplicity in mind. Let me know what you think or if you have feature requests 🙂

I’m a journalist who often records 40-minute interviews in cafés with clattering cups and espresso machines. Smart Dictation nails the transcription even with that background chatter, but I’m curious: how does its AI handle pauses where the subject mumbles or switches languages mid-sentence? If I drop a two-hour round-table with German and English speakers, will it auto-tag each speaker and keep both languages in sync?

@cruise_chen Hey Cruise! Thank you for the questions and feedback, I’m glad you’ve had a positive experience with this, it does really excel at filtering out background noises and clutter. Where trained on real-world speech patterns, the AI will expect hesitations, mumbles or even partial words. For mid-sentence language switching, when setting the transcription language as ‘auto-detect’, it tends to identify a primary language but is still able to switch between multiple to then transcribe mixed languages. Now the auto-tagging of each speaker isn’t something I’ve built into it but this is a brilliant idea and I’m already looking into implementing this in my next update 🙂

No way—multilingual transcription *and* translation right on Mac? I’m forever fumbling between apps for this. Does it handle mixed-language audio too? Super useful for my interviews!

@joey_zhu_seopage_ai Hey Joey! Thanks for the question. Yep, it does handle mixed language audio. If you set the transcription language to ‘auto-detect’, the model will then typically identify a primary language but can switch and capture both. If you select a specific language, it may try to either translate the other language or script it phonetically. Either way you can then translate the full transcription to over 60 languages 🙂
