Hello everyone! 👋 Founder and developer of Shubox here. I'm here to make myself available for any questions that you might have regarding shubox.io and what it can do for you. It's a nice, contained, little app that aspires to make your life easier when it comes to uploading, resizing, transforming, and most of all, giving you the room and the tools to make it work exactly how you WANT it to work.
If there's a differentiator between Shubox and the other great services, it's that it gives you the tools on the front-end to make the uploading process behave and look exactly how you would like. The hard stuff — getting it from your browser to S3, transforming your images — you can leave that to us too. Shubox also provides all of its event (upload, transform) information back to you and your app via webhooks.
We have many things in the works that aim to make things as *easy as possible* for our customers and implementers so do feel free to let us know what YOU would like to see in a service like this.
@jamesdevonport yes indeed, sir. It does. In fact I have recently integrated it with a client app to upload Excel spreadsheets for some legacy data extraction. Worked like a charm!
@jamesdevonport That is excellent. Never hesitate to reach out if there's anything that feels off, or that I could help with - on any front! I'm reachable at my first name at the domain :D
@gopietz You know what, if you consider it just a way of getting files up to S3, it's crazy bonkers. I'd agree to that. (at that point just download the s3 CLI or Transmit or some other S3 client).
But that's not what it is.
Consider this - getting files to S3 without touching your app server, from the web browser to S3, requires a lot of orchestration to get working just right.
* Signature and expiring policy created to authenticate appropriately with S3
* CORS policy being set up for your bucket
* AJAX to appropriately upload the file to S3
* Callbacks to tell you when X number of events are fired
* DOM manipulation to allow your UI/UX to work how you want it to
And this doesn't take into consideration the other stuff Shubox does, file conversion, image manipulation, orientation correction ... and all of the other stuff in the pipeline.
Implementing all of the above has involved more man-hours than I can count.
Check out some of the demos because I consider them to be a pretty good representation of what can be done regarding the UX portion of things: https://shubox.io/demos
I've been using this product for a few months and I love it. It is flexible, yet remains incredibly simple to use and get started. Set up is minimal and making impressive UIs is a cinch. I'd definitely recommend it.
