Inspired by sites like thisiswhyimbroke, ShoveItInYourFaceHole.com is a curated list of weird, wacky, and wonderful food found across the internet. Previously called, AmazonNomNom the site changed its name to broaden its offering, and because I didn't feel like dealing with Amazon lawyers. The site was built as part of an hour a day dev challenge.
About 4 years ago, inspired by sites like "thisiswhyimbroke" I attempted to make a site called AmazonNomNom to curate the weird food on Amazon.com - it was built on a ripped apart WordPress theme and was nothing short of a disaster.
Years later, after learning a bit more about web development (and that including Amazon's name in my URL would be a legal nightmare), I decided to recreate the idea as part of a local "hour a day" marker hackathon challenge where you work on a project for one hour each day over the course of a month.
Armed with an outdated and broken PHP script I bought from a third-party, I set out to learn more about fixing broken PHP, front-end development and dealing with caching/scaling, which were always my weak points. To save time, I used microworkers and Amazon's own MTurk to source products and images, and even to write some of the descriptions which is why the vary so much.
It's more of a novelty than an astounding product, but, I'm pretty proud to have finally brought it from a super ugly concept four years ago, to something quasi-usable as my first maker launch on ProductHunt!
I'd really love to hear from experienced makers any feedback or suggestions they have on things to improve along with tutorials or guides on how to keep on learning!
