@as_austin If you remember how the GroupOn/daily deal gold rush went, basically, a replicatable business model that requires holding no inventory of your own, dependent on geography, means that people start clones in the hopes that whoever becomes the dominant player acquires them for the 'book of business' so to speak.
Look at GroupOns acquisitions - clones all, just different parts of the world. Of course, you could end up in a Lyft vs Uber type situation, but that seems to be rarer.
@mlsj1 Oh I understand that and Shipt also has a subscription-based community. But I don't see either of those as being key differentiators. I think overall it says the market wants grocery delivery if they are all profitable, but I don't see the large difference between them and Instacart, Peapod, Amazonfresh, UberEssentials (pending expansion), FreshDirect, and countless others.
Interesting though networks like these have to start in areas and grow, a national blanket effort will definitely struggle, have no reputation, and overall cripple the business. (Unless teamed with a high caliber brand. But the potential is still high. Hense why Amazon Fresh isn't rolled out everywhere.)
(From an outsider looking in stand-point)
@as_austin The opposite is true of the companies you mention. This business is still in the land grab stage an no where near mature. And the companies mentioned above are not expanding that quickly, leaving room for other entrants. Plus if you look and the biggest part of there footprint, the South East, are in markets that most of those companies are expanding time anytime soon. Instacart isn't going to Birmingham, AL. Amazon Fresh isn't coming to Nashville, TN. Fresh Direct isn't going to Savannah, GA. At least not anytime soon. There is still plenty of room in this game.
@as_austin@melissamonteee Yep, it's rough getting dinged early on a new release. Look for a new one in a few weeks. Our promise has always been to take our members feedback, turn into action and make Shipt a better experience! 🚀🚀🚀
@melissamonteee I've used it. The 3-star rating (which is actually 4-stars, as of today) is deceiving. It's a solid app, and the service itself is getting very positive reviews from customers.
Hey Hunters!
I’m Patrick, the mobile developer at Shipt. I wanted to give a big shout out to @collinmathilde for posting us on Product Hunt and a big THANK YOU to the community here for the comments and support. Here, at Shipt, we connect our members to fresh groceries and everyday essentials. Saving time, fuel and headspace, same day grocery delivery is quickly becoming an everyday necessity for people looking for an extra few hours and intentional food choices.
Check out this truly amazing piece of cinematography that we call it the Shipt Show. It explains a little about what we’ve been working on and a lot about our personality.
Again, thanks for the discussion. Feedback and community is how we grow! I’ll do my best to answer any questions here.
Thanks and looking forward to chatting!
To the grocery store and beyond,
Patrick
