Another big launch from OpenAI — that's competitive with Microsoft AND Google... AND Perplexity! The difference here is the emphasis on citations directed from several of those $100M publisher deals OpenAI recently struck. While Perplexity has been accused of being a content thief, OpenAI is paying handsomely to avoid that fate and getting publishers on its side: “AI search is going to become one of the key ways that people navigate the internet, and it's crucial, in these early days, that the technology is built in a way that values, respects, and protects journalism and publishers. We look forward to partnering with OpenAI in the process, and creating a new way for readers to discover The Atlantic.” —Nicholas Thompson, CEO of The Atlantic “Sam and the truly talented team at OpenAI innately understand that for AI-powered search to be effective, it must be founded on the highest-quality, most reliable information furnished by trusted sources. For the heavens to be in equilibrium, the relationship between technology and content must be symbiotic and provenance must be protected.” — Robert Thomson, Chief Executive, News Corp What's wild is how publishers see this as an opportunity get ahead of the New York Times, which chose to sue rather than partner with OpenAI. 🍿🍿🍿

@chrismessina OpenAI's Move: A Game-Changer for AI Search OpenAI's new search engine, with its emphasis on publisher partnerships, is a significant step forward for AI-driven search. By addressing the critical issue of content attribution and ensuring fair compensation for publishers, they're setting a new standard for responsible AI development. This strategic move positions OpenAI as a leader in the AI search landscape, potentially disrupting the existing dominance of Google and other tech giants. It's interesting to observe how this new model will evolve and impact the broader digital ecosystem. - How will OpenAI balance the need for accurate and relevant search results with the requirement to prioritize content from partner publishers? - What measures will be in place to prevent the misuse of copyrighted content or the generation of misleading information? It will be fascinating to see how this new approach to AI search is received by users and how it influences the competitive landscape.

About time! I was using perplexity constantly. Honestly, props goes to Perplexity for trying. They were taking a page out of big tech's approach which is asking for forgiveness later. Not always a great way to make friends, but it does advance their tech/offerings. I hope they compensate content creators soon. But yeah, about damn time that the money I pay to OpenAi does something useful in search. I don't think I'll leave Google though, I find myself constantly going back.

@askans - sometimes I just want to see the websites and pick the right one. Sometimes, it’s the flight feature.

Can't wait to ditch my reliance on google. It was a good ride. But it's time for some competition 🙏 Maybe Altavista can make a comeback ? 💡

SearchGPT Prototype is the Best as it provides context-aware search results, considering the user’s intent and context to deliver more accurate answers. It is also a Live Saver as it comprehends natural language queries, making it easier for users to find relevant information without using specific keywords.
