Product Hunt

Another hunt for the Prank Products collection. I just tested it out and was disappointed to find the photo itself isn't sent via MMS. Instead, it sends a text messages with a link to view the photo. Any plans to do the former, @nickdrewe?

@rrhoover The original idea was to send via MMS, but we decided on SMS for a number of reasons, mostly the cost per send for MMS. But after testing, we noticed there was thrill for the few moments between receiving the SMS, and the image loading, it definitely adds to the experience. Our open rate via SMS is far higher than we expected, and this method lets a user easily send a Ruffle of their own, or re-ruffle the picture they received. Ideally, we would use SMS for the first point of contact, and then drive users into an app store before they can send. Once there is an install base, we could do away with SMS costs all together.

Thanks for sharing @bramk. A bit of context around Ruffle. @_mattway and I were taking a weekend breather from our main projects and I had one of those "I wonder what would happen if..." moments. Secret and Whisper were blowing up at the time, and we wanted to experiment with anonymity and the use of SMS as a growth mechanism. The result was Ruffle with some help from @antyguvy.
