I've been using Rex for calorie tracking over the past few weeks and it's great! Super easy to use, really like that I can just take a photo, send it on WhatsApp and that's my calories and macros tracked! The daily overviews are great to track progress. It's also fun to ask health nutrition questions and get personalized answers. I recommend it to everyone who's cares about health and fitness 😊

How Rex came to be 🦖

Our story is deeply personal. It all began when my co-founder @ahmad_roumie started helping me get in shape for my wedding this summer. We spent 3 months of YC mostly in coding and networking events, so naturally we both put on some weight. After three weeks of daily exercise and carefully tracking his diet, @ahmad_roumie had lost 6kg or 13 lbs (full twitter thread here). I was struggling to get in shape, so I asked him for help. He was my accountability buddy. I sent him photos of my meals and frequently asked him for workout advice. I lost 11kg (~25 lbs) in 2 months and looked pretty sexy (at least according to the bride) in the wedding photos. This is how Rex was born. We thought: why shouldn’t everyone be able to get an Ahmad? We started building an MVP using LLMs, and our friends loved it. 2 months later, we are presenting you the new version of Rex.

Congrats on the launch! It's great to see more tools like this in the space and I like your interface. I ran into some errors while trying different foods. "1 apple" didn't work (said it wasn't a food), but "apple" did. And there seem to be a few issues with math (I assume this is just handled in the LLM directly for now?). "apple" has 52 calories but "3 apples" have 231.

hey @jrhizor, nice to meet you! You were likely trying our old telegram bot! That could happen but should definitely be more consistent now!

@ahmad_roumie You're right, I was on the old bot. However, I just tried similar queries on the WhatsApp bot and had similar results. "1 apple" was (at first) discarded, while "apple" now has 95kcal, "3 apples" have a lower 77.1kcal, and "5 apples" has 125kcal. Also, some of the message discards seem to be alternating between discarded and processed. If I send "1 apple" four times, it's discard, processed, discard, then processed. Not sure what that's about. However when it does process, "1 apple" does have the same output as "apple", which is good!

Hi, Congratulations on the launch, I made a similar tool last year calorease.in , Its currently Free to use, and works similarly. looking forward to where health apps are heading. I built the tool just out of pure frustration of logging meals on app like myfitness pal, where I have to do 10 taps just to add that I ate an apple. I like these chat based AI apps, rooting for the success
