It's crazy how much of your sensitive personal information is floating around the internet for anyone to find… So we created a software that finds and removes this information, then scans DAILY to make sure your information stays off of the internet.
Hi Product Hunt! 👋
My co-founder John and I have been pouring our heart and soul into Removaly for the past year and a half and we're finally ready to release it! We're tackling a difficult problem, but are thrilled at what we've been able to accomplish in such a relatively small amount of time (considering we both have full-time jobs, families, etc.)
🌱 How it started
After our own personal struggles with online harassment and cyberstalking, we wanted to ensure control over how much of our family’s personal information was freely available online. We were discouraged by the hoops that needed to be jumped through to scrub our own personal information and that's when the idea for Removaly was born!
🤔 The problem
No matter who you are, your sensitive personal information is probably out there for anyone to Google. It's surprisingly (and scarily) easy to locate someone if you know a little bit beyond just their name (i.e. a city or state they're located in). That's because entities known as "data brokers" (also referred to as "people search sites") obtain your information and sell it for their own profit. You can request to take your information down yourself, but it's incredibly time consuming (and VERY annoying).
💡 The Solution?
Well we created Removaly of course! It automatically scans for where your personal information has been exposed, submits the requests to have your information removed, and then continues scanning to make sure your information stays off of the internet! All without you having to lift a finger! (beyond the initial sign up of course)
💛 Let us know what you think!
We’ve built Removaly with the ambition to improve each and every day. Case in point... over the past 30 days we've released over 60 new versions of our software 😄. Whether you see something you like, or find an issue, we'd love to hear from you! We're constantly improving from YOUR feedback.
Feel free to leave a comment below or reach out on anytime. John or I are almost always around (I barely sleep and he's up early).
Thanks for taking a look at Removaly!
First I needed to wait for almost half an hour to get the confirmation link in my inbox. And then, only at the address step, I discover this tool is only for people living in the US?!
@endantwit Hmm well that's odd. Thanks for letting us know, I'll look into that now!
And I'm sorry! This is specifically an issue for people in the US due the laws/regulations in the US in regards to data privacy. To my knowledge there aren't data brokers that cover every other country. I apologize that you had to sign up to realize it is for people in the US only. I've noted to make that more clear as we wouldn't want anyone to be taken by surprise while using our site. As a precautionary measure, I'll go ahead and remove any information you've entered as well as your email from our system. Just email me at kyle@removaly.com and I'll get that taken care of for you right away. Sorry again for the confusion!
@endantwit P.S. We've updated our sign up page to make sure people know BEFORE signing up that this is for US users only. And we've also upgraded our mailing service (higher plan, dedicated IP, etc.) to make sure there isn't any issues with email delivery during times where there's an influx of users. Thanks again for your valued feedback in the early hours of our launch. It was much appreciated and it's because of feedback like yours that Removaly is continually improving! ⭐
I'll be honest @kylekrzeski you had me at hello lol, but the fact that you bill annually was a turn off, as a new user, I understand the value, but I want to see it at a reasonable cost, not $120. Maybe give people alternative options i.e. 1mo/3mo/6mo/1year. If the product has the value suggested, people will pay with a true subscription model.
@seanelevate To be honest, we understand that some people are turned off by the yearly pricing. We could probably explain this better, but it's really necessary to make the service and mission more clear.
For instance, we "could" allow a month subscription, but there are several sites that take 4 weeks or longer to remove from. In that case, does everyone understand that we met expectations and did our job by removing some hits/records and not others?
There's also the case where we submit the request, but the data broker does not honor the request for whatever reason. In that case we have to go back resubmit those, follow back up again, then check one last time to make sure the hit was removed.
Let's say we did a 3 month cycle, even after all of your hits are initially removed, there's still a fairly likely chance that your information will COME BACK on those same data brokers again. Let's say your account was 100% clear at the end of that cycle, but shortly after you unsubscribed you saw something pop up again, would it be clear that Removaly did our job or would there be confusion as to whether that should have been handled by us.
Those are just a few thoughts that come to mind. All in all, the yearly billing allows us to handle ANY of these cases if they come up. We commit that after 1 year if you chose to unsubscribe, we will remove any outstanding hits on your account and see them through, even if it takes 6 weeks or longer past when your subscription is over.
Does that offer a little more clarity? That said, I completely agree that monthly billing is sometimes going to be the preference, but in order to offer a clear, transparent, premium service at a reasonable price we felt we had to stick to yearly billing.
@seanelevate If you look on our homepage you'll see it as the last line item under each plan in the "Pricing" sub-section. However, thinking about it now I'm guessing you went straight to "START MY FREE SCAN" and then didn't see it later on. That's a great point and is an oversight on our part so thanks for pointing that out! I'll make sure to add that in along the way so it's clear that we stand behind our service! Great catch!
@kylekrzeski Thanks for the thorough response. Supreme clarity. A new solution, often requires a deeper level of thought in figuring out the best business model. After understanding the solving mechanism better, I realize now that there are multiple conundrums you would face with a more traditional monthly or short-term subscription. I think you've got a winner, and as time goes by, I'll definitely be a customer and try to give you as much feedback as I can. If you don't mind I'll offer one last suggestion-- clear, transparent, premium services like yours THRIVE with a freemium business model. If you don't garner the long-term traction you are hoping for with this model, maybe consider that, it solves quite a few of the customer-blame scenarios you presented, and will also get you a high LTV per customer. Which in the end, is the goal. I could see companies who value their employee's mental health, offering your service as apart of their onboarding bundles in the future. I'm excited for you. Good luck!
