Not being argumentative just for the sake of it here... BUT... what good does punishing regular Russian citizens achieve?

@mickc79 I've heard this argument a lot. And I really don't understand where you're coming from. My friends have to hide in basements in Kiev while the Russian army bombs the whole city and you are concerned how the western sanctions will hit the Russian economy? As someone has said elsewhere: "The only real chance to stop the war is for someone to overthrow the mad aggressor - it will be either someone in his inner circle or the Russian people. But you might be surprised to learn that 60% of population in Russia directly supports the war, so it is OK if they have to feel a bit uncomfortable. Everybody in Russia should absolutely be targeted with sanctions and feel the urgency to act until this stops." Or as someone else put it: "Unless there’s a button that Ukrainians can click to prevent a rocket strike on their apartment building, there shouldn’t be any button to click through this block. As someone who has had to flee Ukraine and has friends and family with missiles striking in their neighborhood, I can assure you that the inconvenience of having a service blocked pales in comparison to the fear I hear in people’s voices and messages from Ukraine."

@mickc79 The world need Russian citizens to drop what they are doing right now and get rid of Putin. It's that simple. Putin is destroying a country in front of our eyes, killing thousands of people in the process. What is hard to understand?

@carlobadini Hey thanks for the reply. The fact that you hear this argument a lot alongside the number of upvotes my comment has had would indicate that - like most things - this issue isn't as black and white as you might like it to be. You've stated a few things and largely I agree: - Putin is a madman and needs stopped. Yup, totally agree. - What's happening in The Ukraine is atrocious. Yup, I totally TOTALLY agree My take on this is that regular Russians can't have any effect on their insane leader. I mean I live in the UK and OUR leaders are crazy and we, "The People" can't do jack about it, so what hope do regular Russians have against that gangster. murdering lunatic. Further, even if your 60% statistic is true (which is almost certainly isn't) then that still leaves nearly half the population. What's going on is atrocious and it's causing me anxiety even from the relative safety of my home in the UK, but I disagree that blanket punishing everyone in Russia is the right move. For every A-Hole that this might hurt, there might also be a mother trying to buy supplies for her baby who might also get hurt - an extreme analogy but the point is valid.

@mhangaard "It's that simple" really? And how do you suggest the largely impoverished Russian civilians do that against this lunatic? I think the Oligarchs and the super rich need to step up, definitely. Saying that the Russian citizens getting rid of Putin is "that simple" is ludicrous.

Do you mind creating "Redirect USA" in order to punish all regular USA citizens for the wars that their government created in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Somalia and the humanitarian crisis and lose of life associated with those? What about "Redirect Israel" to punish regular Israeli citizens for their government's treatment of the Palestinian people? Regular citizens don't have anything to do with the horrible things their dictatorial people in power are doing. What do you think a regular working class citizen who lives paycheck to paycheck and needs to feed a family of 5 is going to do? Go and overthrow a government who holds all the power and weapons and risk the wellbeing and the wellbeing of their family? We can barely achieve anything when protesting in the West, do you think that you'd have better luck if you go protest against a dictatorial regime? I'm sure you have good intentions, but in my opinion this is a bad on this horrible situation. This app only hurts regular citizens whilst the people that actually hold the power won't even notice.

@kris_bogdanov @carlobadini Of course he does mind creating “Redirect USA”! Are you out of your goddamn mind? What is Iraq, Syria? Is that even a country? I mean, it is not like millions of civilians, men, women & kids died because of US just for nothing, right? I mean, it is not like they wanted to live, have careers & peaceful lives, unlike people in Ukraine, right? There were only terrorists over there, not average civilians, who had aspirations, ambitions & bright hopes. At the of the day, a bunch of Muslims died, who cares really? I am sure they are even better off lying in the ground, instead of living in their shithole-country no one has ever heard of. Ukraine is a very different case. As a Russian, I am against the war. I support anyone’s efforts to help invaded countries. But this right here is pure hypocrisy, pure bullshit. Where were you when millions of innocent people died in Iraq, Syria, Palestine? Did you put a Syrian/Iraq/Palestine flag on your profile pics? Not even talking about creating “Redirect USA”, did you even think about doing something, even making a f*cking post? You all went silent, including you. Millions of Muslims died for literally nothing, no single thought/action. But no, when something happens to non-Muslim countries, everyone suddenly starts to care. You know why? Because nobody does when Muslims die. Everyone is following a trend, set by US and the rest of the world. It is so cool right now to hate on Russia for what it’s doing(which is justified, although not against the regular population). Yay, let’s put a Ukrainian flag & pour vodka onto the streets! This will surely have a major impact, right? You are just a hypocrite, just like the rest of people, following the trend & feeding your ego. Look at me, I am such a nice person. People are going to love me! If you want it to look sincere, keep that same energy for all other conflicts. Far more innocent people died in Iraq&Syria from the hands of US government, than in Ukraine, but I am 10000% sure you did absolutely nothing. F you and the likes of you, without respect. P.S And for you & the rest of hypocrites, saying Russians are to be blamed for what’s happening, we live in a very, very different countries. Simply going to protests will cost you at least a few years of possible sentence. This ain’t US or Ukraine. Before judging people for not risking their lives & families to stop this, come down here and see what happens. I will be my PLEASURE to assist you in doing that.

@sulemanelahi2 @andreasduess Not everybody who dissents with you is a Russian troll. Some people just do not like politicizing every aspect of life. This is a product launch platform. It is not a place to share useless, regurgitated, nonsensical, political trash. There is a platform for such a thing: Twitter.

This is so silly. I think there are countries in the world that are going through worse. If you really care do the same for all the other countries starting with Israel, the biggest of all criminal

I feel like its nationalistic. I dont support war, but things like this wouldn't help solve it - they just ignite the conflict.
