A lot of shows ask their listeners to leave a review but it's not practical to explain how to do it on-air. Rate This Podcast lets you create a short, memorable link to read out to your listeners.
👋 Hey everyone,
A lot of shows ask you to 'please leave us a review in iTunes' but it's not a very useful call to action because most listeners don't know how. This tool lets you create a memorable link to read out to your listeners at the end of every episode.
It lists the right apps for their device, explains how to subscribe and leave a review, then sends them there with a deep link.
Ratings and reviews are important for improving the credibility of your podcast and they act as social proof for attracting new listeners.
The links also prompt your listeners to subscribe to your podcast in Apple Podcasts. This is important for boosting your rankings in the charts.
This is pretty cool! Not a podcaster myself, but I like that the domain is really memorable.
Leaving reviews in iTunes does feel weird - a third party review system for podcasts (similar to rottentomatoes) does feel inevitable at some point - but until that happens, these instructions feel like a pretty decent alternative.
Thoughts on eventually allowing users to leave reviews directly on the site?
Great idea and needed for podcasts. 2 feature requests of mine:
- being able to create multiple links for different podcasts under the same account.
- setting up custom subdomains e.g. rateus.podcastname.com
Both of these could be premium features
@jonbstrong thanks Jon :)
You can currently add as many links as you like in your account. They will all show up at the top of the page.
Custom subdomains is an interesting idea. I'll have a think about how that could work. Is that a feature you need yourself?
