🚀 Introducing Rank Anything: The Ultimate Crowdsourced Directory! 📊
Imagine a directory where you can rank ANYTHING imaginable - from the best movies 🎥 to the smartest dog breeds 🐶, from the top ways to learn a language 🌍 to the best and worst politicians 👔. Well, stop imagining because it’s here and it's called Rank Anything! 🎉
Two months ago, I had this thought: why are there so many different directories out there but there is no universal directory? One that would allow you to create rankings in any category imaginable and quickly find out the leading products / items / things in each. I looked around but didn’t find anything. Impulsively, I decided to build that website myself, and voila! Rank Anything was born. 👶
In these two months, Rank Anything achieved the following milestones:
- 33 users have joined 🙌
- 42 rankings have been crafted ⭐
- 219 unique items have added 📈
- 268 upvotes and downvotes have been cast 🗳️
- First ad sold for $12 💸
Thank you for checking out Rank Anything! As always, I’m looking forward to any feedback that you might have 💬
@tomasz_fm congratulations ! I like how simple it easy to get going !
How do "top books" get generated ? It depends on your sample data by geography, right?
I also search for "language learning apps", and it returned a flurry of categories, some of which don't match with my search intent.
@aris_nakos Thanks! I spent a lot of time trying to make as simple as I can.
I assume by "top books" you mean the "popular lists"? These are just the lists with the highest total number of upvotes in the past 12 months.
About the search results - I'm using AI embeddings (pgvector + Open AI ada) to find lists with the closest meaning to the query. That means that the results get progressively worse the further down you scroll. Usually the first 2-3 results are good. Now that I'm thinking about it, I should probably add a cut-off point where some results don't get shown if the similarity score is too low.
The good news is the search results get much better with the number of lists. I'm already seeing improvements over what the search results looked like a couple of months ago.
RankAnything is awesome! It's a great resource for discovering the best of best. It can also be fun too because you can literally Rank Anything. See for yourself!
