Radiant is a new app for Mastodon built to supercharge your social media feeds. Features like multi-tags allow you to follow your interests, while trending posts and tags allow you to explore the moments topics. Customize app appearance and behavior to suit!
A solid, new, well-designed entry into the Mastodon client category — really appreciate the focus and execution on Radiant.
And — glad the name isn't retreading the extinct mammoth meme! 🔥
@chrismessina thanks Chris! Haha yeah I wanted to go a slightly different direction. I'm trying to build a brighter and shinier Mastodon client, so it seemed like a good fit 🔥
Hey Product Hunt 👋!
I’m Jake, an indie iOS developer behind Radiant for Mastodon.
When my experience on Twitter began to sour last year, I sought an alternative social media platform and found myself having a blast on Mastodon. While it isn’t perfect, it captured that sense of freshness, friendliness, and energy that Twitter once offered. Unfortunately, I didn’t love any of the available apps. I’d been using third party clients for most of my social media at this point, and wanted a polished and customisable option. When I didn’t find one that suited me perfectly, I started building it!
Radiant is designed and built to be highly customisable, allowing you to tailor your experience as you see fit. Even now, I'm working on introducing more features to enhance customisation.
A key highlight is the ability to create and pin multi-tags. Multi-tags allow you to combine the results of multiple hashtag timelines into one, including excluding certain tags from a given multi-tag. This lets you streamline your interests and discover interesting people more easily. For instance, my "Indie" timeline aggregates all posts tagged with "IndieDev," along with either "iOS," "Android," or "Games”.
Here are some of Radiant's standout features:
- Effortless browsing and interaction with your home, local, and federated timelines
- An intuitive threaded reply view to highlight each conversation
- A dynamic composer for creating polls, uploading images, and initiating threads
- Built-in quote boosting and inline quote view
- Multi-tags let you create timelines to follow your interests
Radiant Prime features:
- Support for multiple accounts, with per account theming to avoid any mix-ups!
- Instant server notifications on your device
- Extra app icon choices and themes
Radiant is free to download and use, and if you want to unlock premium features then you can get Radiant Prime at the introductory launch price of $0.99 USD a month or $7.99 USD a year.
Currently, Radiant is exclusively available on iPhone, but a Mac and iPad version are on the way! I don't have plans for other platforms at this stage. This introductory offer not only unlocks premium features on iPhone today but also covers the upcoming Mac and iPad versions of Radiant.
A massive thanks to @chrismessina for trying out and hunting Radiant!
I’ve got plenty of ideas for what to do next, such as privacy friendly content algorithms (on-device if I can wrangle it!), widgets, shortcuts and more. But I’m eager to hear from you. What features would make your Mastodon experience even better?
@sentry_co thank you! Design is one of the main areas, as well as customisability and functionality. Ivory, the official Mastodon client, and honestly a lot of the other available apps on iOS all have strengths and in the last six months or so there have been a lot of fantastic clients released.
Personally none had a design that was just right, nor offered the degree of customisation that I want. Occasionally I feel quite strongly that there is one right way of doing something, but more frequently I think that it actually depends on the person! So the more customisation the better in my book.
I'm also layering on additional improvements and functionality, for example multi-tags or the mutuals account highlight, that I find really useful!
We're becoming spoiled with some great iOS client apps for Mastodon, and I have to say that I've really been enjoying Radiant. Quick, customisable, and a nice clean design. Nice work and thank you, @jknlsn 👍🏻
