Push to Kindle converts web articles into e-books and delivers them to your Kindle account. It allows you to read long-form web articles the same way you would read an e-book purchased from Amazon.
Hi all, I'm Keyvan Minoukadeh, one of the developers of Push to Kindle.
Push to Kindle lets you send web articles to your Kindle. The articles can then be opened and read like the books in your library.
It's intended to improve the reading experience, especially when it comes to reading long-form web articles. So if you encounter articles that you'd like to read, but don't want to do it on your laptop or phone, or don't want to read it then and there, you can use Push to Kindle and read it later. You can then use most of the same reading and note-taking features available when reading purchased e-books on your Kindle. And after delivery, your articles are also available offline.
Push to Kindle works by identifying and extracting only the article content from a web page. We then convert the article to an e-book and deliver it to your Kindle account. You can then access the article from a Kindle device, or from the Amazon Kindle app available for iPhone, iPad and Android devices.
We have thousands of happy users on Google Chrome, with an average rating of 4.6 out of 5. We hope some of you will enjoy the new app on iOS too. We've made it easier to use by doing away with the requirement to enter your Kindle email address when using the app (we can now use the Kindle app for delivery). We've also made it possible to share the converted article with other apps, such as Apple Books, if you prefer reading in an app other than the Kindle.
The app is also now completely free if you don't send more than 10 articles a month. There's no need to create an account with us or enter any payment details if you don't need to send more than this.
Our current focus with Push to Kindle is improving article extraction. If you encounter any issues with particular sites, or have any suggestions, please let us know.
Finally, a big thanks to Chris Messina (@chrismessina) for posting this here. We really appreciate it!
As someone who sends a lot of stuff to his kindle, I love this idea. Do you do a lot of work to reformat it and remove irrelevant text? I see you said you extract the article text - is that trivial?
@justus_mulli Thanks! To extract article text we analyse the source HTML to identify the element that is most likely to contain the article content. There are various open source solutions that can do this (a popular one is Readability - see https://github.com/mozilla/reada...). We build on this and also apply site-specific rules to improve and clean up the final result. One of our solutions which we offer to other developers is Full-Text RSS, you can try it here: https://www.fivefilters.org/full...
These solutions won't work on all sites, so there are always new challenges in handling the difficult cases and improving overall extraction.
