A powerful Safari extension for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro that lets you filter unwanted posts from Reddit. Block specific topics, avoid spoilers, and customize your Reddit feed.
👋 Hey Product Hunt!
I'm Edgar, an indie developer, and I'm excited to share Protego with you today.
I built Protego because I switched to Safari on macOS and discovered there was no way to filter Reddit posts anymore (RES isn't available for Safari, and its development has stalled). As someone who loves Reddit but values mental well-being, I needed a way to filter out potentially overwhelming content.
🛠 Key features:
- Filter posts using keywords and wildcards
- Works with both old and new Reddit
- Real-time filtering as you scroll
- Import/export your filters
- Everything happens locally on your device
🤔 What makes it different:
- Native Safari extension (no Chromium wrapper)
- Focus on simplicity and performance
- Privacy-first approach (no tracking, no accounts)
- Active development and support
I'm launching with a Black Friday sale (25% off) and have several updates already in App Review that add new features and improvements.
I'd love to hear your feedback and feature requests! I'll be around to answer questions and discuss how we can make Reddit browsing more mindful.
Thank you for checking out Protego! 🪄✨
@nilni Thanks for the feedback! I made it only for Safari on macOS because I started building it as a tool for myself and I only use Safari on Mac. You raise a very good point though, assuming this extension does well I plan on extending it to Safari on iOS/iPadOS. After that I can consider branching out into other browsers, it's just a bit more complicated because I'd have to set up my own payment and software licensing. Apple makes it extremely simple to add an extension to the app store and they take care of all the heavy lifting. I'll need to implement that for other browsers, but I'm definitely open to it.
Love the idea of having a native Safari extension for Reddit filtering! The privacy-first approach is definitely a big plus. Have you considered adding custom filter categories or maybe a feature to temporarily disable specific filters? Would make it even more versatile for different browsing moods. Either way, great to finally see a proper Reddit filter for Safari users! 🎯
@_ivan1 Thanks for the comment! I love that idea, I currently only support adding and removing keywords. Also having a toggle to enable or disable existing keywords makes so much sense! I'll be adding that to one of my next updates!
