Super cool that the creators behind this are 16. @pradyu would love to hear the backstory of how you came up with ProfessorAI

@pradyu @benln that's cool! 16 y.o.? Respect!

@pradyu @benln We came up with ProfessorAI upon observing student interactions during passing periods at our high school. We noticed everybody coming out of class every day, huddling up in their various friend groups, discussing one of the two things. How they did absolute trash on the test cause they had no time to study, or because didn't know how to study properly. They would always complain about the lack of resources to help study with tools like ChatGPT being useless. It was always students asking each other about the type of questions on the test, because nobody knew their course content well enough. Regardless of the characteristics of the student (smart/dumb athlete/nerd), every student experienced this issue, every single day. The first five minutes of any conversation with my peers began with something along these lines, before transitioning to other topics. At the same time, Abhay and I were exploring various problems to solve for a startup. Upon realizing how big this issue was, we interviewed thousands of students across various schools, asking them if they expressed similar opinions and resonated with the problem. That's when we decided to create ProfessorAI.

@pradyu @benln @pradyukandala that's a great backstory and awesome how you decided to innovate starting so young. I was in your shoes too back when I was 17, my friends and I were ideating Grab before it hit our country. The difference here is that you've made your ideas into strategy and execution. Awesome work. Love to see it
Congrats on the launch Pradyu 🚀 ProfessorAI is one of those really good use cases for AI. Really love that you're focusing on affordability and non-hallucination. Well done PH and Abhay. Bravo 👌 How did you obtain the training data?
Pradyu Kandala
@jgani Thanks for the support Jonni! All of the training data we use are Collegeboard Verified textbooks that fall under the Creative Commons 4.0 Open Licensing Agreement giving us freedom to use them as training data.

It's an interesting idea, but it doesn't work with anything that is above middle school level, e.g. it can't parse simple chemical structures, so there is no hope to even ask it for things like reaction mechanism. It seems to be trying to extract text, so it doesn't even consider the possibility that there are structures (which you know, are very common) rather than text. If you could somehow solve that, you would have a really brilliant product on your hands.
Pradyu Kandala
@simontgenoob Thanks for the feedback Simon, in our testing we were able to solve chemical structures pretty well, but maybe not with very advanced questions. We will definitely work on that.
Abhay Chebium
@simontgenoob Thanks for the feedback. The biggest issue we have is that the accuracy of LLMs in terms of graphs and diagrams is very low. Our team is currently exploring many solutions to this problem.
