What do you think? …

Paul Martinez
In January, I was on a farm in southwest Wisconsin, on the edge of my seat, watching the NFC Divisional Round matchup between the Green Bay Packers and the Los Angeles Rams. We had poor reception, and the image was going in and out, and an old boombox radio played mostly static. I tried to check ESPN on my phone, but the loading bar was stuck firmly in place. It was then I had the idea for a website designed for the pure sports fan. No ads, no images, just scores, play-by-play and stats -- just plain text sports. In January and February I built plaintextsports.com for me to follow the NBA and my beloved Milwaukee Bucks. The NHL season was in full swing, so I added that too. March Madness came around, so I let you follow the Sweet 16 matchups. In April I added support for MLB so I could cheer on the Brewers. In the summer Euro 2020 (2021?) started, and I figured, why not? Viva Italia! I quit my job and flew home to Wisconsin at the end of June, just in time to see the Milwaukee Bucks advance to the NBA Finals for the first time in 47 years. I went to all three Finals home games, and during each timeout would refresh plaintextsports.com, checking how many blocks Giannis Antetokounmpo had, how many points Khris Middleton scored in the quarter, and what happened in the last three minutes I forgot I can't remember I was screaming Bucks in Six so loud I almost passed out there were only three things in the world: The Milwaukee Bucks, me, and plaintextsports.com, the greatest website ever created. On July 20th, 2021 AD, I peaked. But then the Brewers were heating up, and so I added MLB standings so I could track our lead in the division. What's that? Aaron Rodgers IS coming back? Quick, I need to add NFL support! Crazy idea: what if I drew a football field, in plain text, on the screen. And instead of the NFL logo at midfield, it'll say PTS. I was so excited about whether I could, I didn't stop to think if I should. Today is the start of the 2021-2022 NBA Season. It's Day 1 of the title defense for the World Champion Milwaukee Bucks. Come follow YOUR favorite teams at plaintextsports.com.

Awesome I love the idea!!! Great job ?makers I am wondering how you could monetize this website. I believe plaintextads could become a thing ^^ :)

@benjamin_grandfond2, thank you! I do want to maintain the purity of the site, so I don't know if I'll add any ads, but I may add affiliate links for tickets—that seems a little more genuine and potentially useful for people.

@wilhelmr, thank you!! What a way to put an end to a 20-game losing streak! 😂 Refreshing before field goal attempts is always the most stressful! (The Packers and Bengals missed 5 last week!)
