It’s no secret that a huge number of companies are collecting, buying and selling data about us. Find out exactly what information they collect, and take action to protect yourself.
@chrismessina Hi Chris - Ginny from Consumer Reports here. Thanks for sharing Permission Slip with the PH community! Very interested to hear what you think of the app.
Hi everyone — I’m Ginny and I lead the Product team at Consumer Reports Innovation Lab. Thanks for all the interest and great comments about Permission Slip!
To share a bit about where this product came from — Consumer Reports has been involved in advocating for privacy rights for a long time. When states started to pass their first privacy laws, we saw that the data rights we fought so hard for were confusing and time-consuming for most people to use.
We believe the right to privacy is only real if you can use it, which is why we started working on an experimental service that would make it easy for consumers to exercise their data rights. We’re delighted to now be sharing Permission Slip with the world!
The Permission Slip app shows you what kinds of data companies collect, and lets you decide what to do. You can tell a company to stop selling your data or to delete it with a tap. We also have an “auto request” feature that lets you automatically manage your data with dozens of data brokers that sell and share it.
Very eager to hear what you think of the app, thanks for playing around and sharing your feedback!
