If you've ever taken your family overseas, you'll know just how painful it is to keep entering everyone's passport number, date of expiry and country, not to mention date of birth and other info. I did this 84 times when I took my family of six on holidays, across four flights, five trains and five Spanish AirBnBs. 🙁
I looked for a solution, but couldn't find anything for multiple people, and particularly for sensitive data like passport information. I also didn't want my data stored in the cloud - I wanted it encrypted on MY device, controlled by me. I've read too much press about massive data breaches! And this is why the big sites don't want to keep your data long term - it makes them a target for hackers!
So I started building, but I quickly realized that most airline and travel booking sites handle multiple people differently. There was no way I could visit every one of these sites! So I had to change from having a standalone app, to one that could adapt to new websites, and provide a central feedback mechanism so I could fix things quickly. I definitely didn't want my sensitive data going back and forth over APIs, so I designed a system where the mapping rules are stored in the backend, and the sensitive data stays entirely in the browser - always.
