Orange Outlet

After realizing that only 9% of electric cars were registered to multi-family properties in 2019, we've learned there was an issue. We've spent the last two years working on a cost-effective solution for charging electric vehicles in multi-unit properties. When Model 3 lunched in 2017, we started seeing extension cords out of three-story SF apartments. Hearing from people who returned their new EV because they didn't have a convenient place to plug in overnight. We spent months surveying the charging companies' options. We talked with thousands of EV drivers to learn that most current owners use an outlet in their garage for 93% of their charging. After looking at public charging infrastructure data, we realized that the expensive level 2 chargers installed at shopping centers were underutilized. Who wants to spend 3 hours topping up every few days at whole food. We then discovered that current EV drivers were on average using public charging stations less than six times per year. So we set out to create an affordable, equitable solution that addressed install cost, management time, and complexity while keeping the cost of electricity low. We want to make it so everyone who lives in a multi-unit property has access to clean, affordable electricity to charge their next car. We collected data on commuting distances, charge times, and installation cost to realize the ideal cost vs. power is a 240V outlet. Orange Outlet is our first product line, and we can confidently say the best bang per watt. This is genius, and exactly what I'd need around me. Perfect way to present EV infrastructure to landowners around multi-unit properties, as there's now an easy way to manage the tech once it's been installed. Congrats on the launch as well!
