Effortlessly moderate user-generated content with OpenModerator 🛡️ Automate text and image moderation with AI and start using our free, open-source TypeScript package in minutes. More to come: moderation bots, multimedia support, and more powerful AI models
Hello Product Hunt! As builders we want to spend more time building, not moderating. While I was building a community application for racquet sports players (ralley.app) I realized there are too few options to moderate user-generated content. I’ve created OpenModerator, which is a suite of tools to make moderation easy:
✅ Open-source TypeScript package (content-checker) that’s a modernized version of the popular but outdated bad-words JS package
✅ API with AI text and image moderation endpoints (more to come!) integrated with the content-checker package
✅ Next.js 14 demo repo to show you how easy it is to use content-checker
All the non-AI stuff is free of course. If you want to try out the AI text and image moderation you can try for free at OpenModerator.com!
@jahabeebs Congrats! Listen, the implementation seems really good - I definitely need to try it.
BUT
the problem is indeed relevant.
Let's just remove the moderator altogether, shall we? Can we do that?
@chrismessina thanks Chris, the AI text moderation returns a JSON response with an array of certain filters (profanity, toxicity, etc) so you can filter appropriately for your app. Same idea for the AI image moderation. I give a short demo in the loom video but for the full spec check out the linked GitHub where I list all the categories! 🙂 there’s no admin panel for reviewing individual flagged content, but this is something I’d like to integrate in the future. If you have any particular use cases for your app let me know!
@guillegette Yes and I plan to make bots based off this API for Discord, Telegram, and Reddit to make it plug and play. If you have a community with particular moderation requirements then let me know and I’ll work with you to make a prototype that’s better than what you use currently 😉
Such a great utilization of AI where cultivating a community is so important yet can be so time consuming. Is there anyway to implement this on a sub-Reddit?
@terrence_kelleman Yes and I plan to make bots based off this API for Discord, Telegram, and Reddit to make it plug and play. If you moderate a particular subreddit let me know and I’ll work with you to make a prototype that’s better than what you use currently 😉
@jahabeebs Thank you so much! That would be Amazing. I've created the Sub-Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/BestMen... I've been holding off putting it public because I was afraid of being overwhelmed. This is the perfect way to allow me to build the community without worrying about the moderation. I could really see this being a very valuable tool.
