?makers Looks good - but how is this different than Notion? Notion's free plan for individuals includes unlimited pages, so I'm questioning why one would pay $7 a month for Notabase over Notion's free plan (and Notion's Pro plan is only $4 / month)?
@austin_piel Notabase is focused on networked thinking. This means you can link to other notes and see backlinks, as well as view a graph of how all of your notes connect together. This lets you organize your knowledge associatively and means that you always have a high-level view of how your note connects with other notes and how it fits in within your entire knowledge graph. Seeing connections makes it easier to synthesize ideas together and think/write better.
Notion is focused on project management - great if you want to keep track of todo lists, have complex tables, etc. But it's not really geared towards building knowledge. If you have 1000s of notes, you'll easily lose track of where everything is because Notion only gives you hierarchical organization. Notabase gives you bottom-up organizational tools like backlinks and tags, as well as top-down organizational tools like nested notes and the graph view so that you always know how any note fits in with every other note.
If you've heard of Roam/Obsidian: Notabase is like Notion had a baby with Roam/Obsidian, combining Notion's ease-of-use with the power of networked thinking.
@richard_chu Thanks for the reply! The last line made things really clear to me. Haven't heard of Roam or Obsidian before and haven't experimented around with graph-based note organization - seems like an interesting approach. I think having some more information available about the areas in which Notabase wins over Notion would be really helpful for those familiar. Best of luck!🙂
@austin_piel Thanks Austin! I agree that my landing page pre-supposes knowledge about the alternatives. I'll probably add a comparison page with Notion in the future 😄
Hi @richard_chu congrats for the launch! I know from experience how difficult it is to create an editor that is easy to use, easy to integrate, easy to enhance with homemade features. I was wondering, do you use a custom made one? Or you use an open source or closed source project?
@benjamin_grandfond2 Thanks! The editor is definitely the hardest piece of the puzzle, and it's no wonder most other note-taking apps stick with markdown instead.
I'm using an open source project called Slate and have invested a significant amount of hours polishing the experience and writing my own custom code for it. In the end, though, I do think the trade-off is worth it and the editor experience is better than the alternative.
Hi everyone! 👋
I'm excited to share Notabase with the Product Hunt community today.
Notabase is a powerful and easy-to-use note-taking app for networked thinking. Use it as a daily journal, a personal knowledge base, a space to write and synthesize ideas, and more.
I built Notabase because I couldn't find a note-taking app that meshed with the way I think. The existing options were too complicated and hard to use, or didn't have the capabilities I needed.
The ideal note-taking app doesn't just let you take notes; it helps you write and think better.
To that end, Notabase is:
1. Effortless to use: WYSIWYG editor, accessible on any device
2. Super powerful: backlinks, graph view, page stacking, and more
3. Transparent & privacy-friendly: your data is private and secure, and the code is open source
Here are some of the features that Notabase offers:
• 📖 Browse your notes with page stacking (similar to Andy's working notes)
• 📝 Read and edit notes easily with our powerful WYSIWYG editor with markdown support
• 🔗 See notes that reference a specific note with linked/unlinked references
• #️⃣ Organize your notes with links, tags, and nested notes
• 📱 Install the app as a Progressive Web App (PWA) for faster loading and offline viewing
• ☁ Sync your notes to the cloud and access them on any device
• 🔀 Use the graph view to analyze your knowledge graph
• 🔍 Easily find relevant notes with full-text search
• 🧱 Use block references to embed a block of text from another note, which auto-updates when the original block changes
• 🤝 Import or export your notes at any time
• 🙌 Get involved with our community and development, since the code is open source
For a limited time, we're offering a lifetime discount of up to 40%. No promo code needed, it'll be applied automatically when you upgrade. This lifetime discount ends soon, so act fast!
