I don't understand why people spend time on products like this. And seeing them in my product hunt feed makes me want to close the app. Sorry for being a downer but for me PH is/was about finding great products that would enhance my life/workflow. Not joke crap.
@angus_halen I realise how much of a boring stick in the mud this makes me btw... would it not be an idea to have a new category (in the same way that we have games) called "novelty" as clearly there are some folks that find this kind of thing worthwhile.
@angus_halen not everything needs to be world changing or even "useful". Technology is a form of expression, the same as music or other forms of art, and should be treated similarly. Even silly stuff can inspire and/or evolve into something meaningful, the same way experimental music informs new genres.
Product Hunt would be a lot less fun if everything was so serious and a discussion about TAM, CAC, and other business speak. 😊
I wrote about a similar topic a few years ago if interested.
@rrhoover@angus_halen just like in the Silicon Valley show itself, a silly idea ended up being useful and leading to another idea. So silly ideas sometimes grow and are a nice break from the routine.
@angus_halen There is the category "funny" attached to this post. Do you think this category is appropriate and would help steer people away who want non-joke apps, or is there a better category that could perhaps be created?
