Hello Folks!
I shoot a ton of videos on the iPhone, but hate the part where I need to crop, splice and prepare them for upload to Instagram or other media.
If you search for video editors for the iPhone, there are dozens of good ones out there, some free and some paid. But as a Gen X-er, I long for a mouse. My thumbs hate me whenever I edit on the phone.
The best video editors, however are desktop based. I LOVE Premiere Pro and Final Cut.
I am too lazy to copy my videos back and forth between the phone and computer. So lazy, that I decided to put in some work to make it easier.
The result was a browser based video editor.
It comes in two parts.
1. The free app that you download and run on the phone.
2. The video editor itself that runs on a browser.
If your computer runs on the same Wifi/network as the iPhone, the video editor on the browser connects to the app on the phone locally and lets you browser and edit videos that live on the phone.
What this means is :
- No copying videos back and forth. The browser does not store your information, and all your edits happen on the phone.
- Your generated videos simply appear on the camera roll when you export them.
- No intermediate cloud servers for transferring your data, except for a signaling server which establishes the initial connection.
- No saving or sending your media to any entity other than the editing browser for display purposes
- Peer to Peer, so even we don't know who our users are. The only thing collected is stats (how many projects created, videos rendered, etc).
This is just V1.1, I hope it works for you and saves you some time and effort. Its FREE, just like the feedback I would love to hear.
And one more thing...
Just for shits and giggles, I have included a feature called "BeatDub" (see button on the top right once you connect), which lets you pick an audio track and matches up your photos or videos to the beats on the track.
@hayr_hotoca The goal of the product is to let you edit your videos directly from a desktop. So, the web app is designed primarily from a desktop (like Safari on Mac).
On the desktop safari, open edit.nitroreel.com, it will show you a QR Code.
On the Phone, you simply run the NitroReel App that you download from the appstore.
On that App, click the "Connect" button and scan the QR code shown on the desktop browser.
If both the phone and the computer are on the same wifi network, you now can keep the phone aside (ensure the app is on the foreground) and do your video editing on the Safari on the computer.
I will make a video explaining the process this week. I was planning to do a PH release on Thursday, but forgot to reset the date :-(
