Submit problems you have, submit need gaps in the current solutions, discuss with others who face that problem, interact with startups which build solution for that problem, create your own startup ideas to solve them.
I've discovered needgap a while ago and check in now and then. It's a neat site and brings up interesting ideas. Often the ideas seem a bit too abstract to me.
@spekulatius1984 Thanks for that Peter, Problems are the first class citizens at needgap and of-course ideas to solve those problems are always welcomed in the comments.
Problems vary on the level of difficulty to come up with a solution, some require just a web browser add-on and we've seen them get built right in needgap, some require intensive scientific research and so ideas to solve for them could be abstract.
I think this is great and I really like the hashtag feature so that ideas can be looked up y category. I would also consider making the posts have a more structured format. For example, quora is for asking questions and they make you pose every post as a question. In order to keep people from using needgap to simply promote their own businesses, they should have to pose a question to the market or have to explain a problem- not just talk about their solution.
@degasel_ Thank you for checking out needgap and for your thoughtful comment.
I agree that needgap needs improvements ensure problem statements are structured properly and to prevent spam as the community grows.
As of now, there are couple of things in place to help maintain quality of problem statements -
• 50 characters limitation for problem title including two hash tags.
• Voting requires karma.
• Moderation by community to ensure that contribution guidelines (https://needgap.com/problems/2-c...) are followed.
Every so often, I used to come across a successful startup and think "hmm, didn't I think of doing, what they are doing. So, why didn't I do that?".
It's likely that I didn't realise that startup idea is solving a good problem and is addressing a real need gap.
Like many here, I started writing down problems and startup ideas to solve them in a note taking app. The issue with this is, both the problems and startup ideas are not validated as they stay within my private notes.
Then, when I started coaching startups; I noticed that not validating, overestimating one's 'startup idea' as something which people want is the most common cause for the failure of startups in its early days.
So, I set out to build 'needgap' - A platform to post problems as easily as writing it down in a note taking app, validating it with others who face that problem and building validated startup ideas together to solve them.
Problems are the first class citizen of needgap, as soon as one is submitted, a featured image with QR is generated(psst. check out gallery) for easy sharing for validation.
I hope Product Hunt users find needgap useful, you can read more about how needgap works here - https://needgap.com/problems/5-n....
