So, emojis are getting kinda popular huh?! Back in 2016 I created http://Mosho.ws, an Emoji URL Shortener (think Bitly but with Emojis). Quick example: it's a service that can shorten http://google.com/maps to http://📍.🎉🐙.ws. People didn't hate it and my ego swelled to new heights (not really, but it felt pretty cool!).
What surprised me was that a couple of folks reached out asking if I offered a whitelabel solution. I promptly lied and said one was already in the works and that it would be available in two weeks. I began work the next day and finished last night - I'm not great at timelines.
Mosho.ws allows you to create branded Emoji URLs using your own domain. It works with regular domains (producthunt.com, google.com, etc) and emoji domains (http://🎉🐙.ws, http://🍟😋.ws, etc.). It keeps track of detailed analytics (clicks, sources, mediums, cities, countries, browsers, platforms, and devices) and supports 888 modern-day emojis (unintentional, which makes it even cooler in my opinion).
All in all it's been a wonderful learning experience; now I'd love to see what you all think of this idea!
(As an aside, how cool are emoji domains?? If you'd like to get one, one of the easiest ways to do so is via @jonroig's super-user-friendly http://❤️❤️❤️.ws (no affiliation or kickbacks, I just think it's a very useful tool)).
@alexalksne That's really cool to see how this has evolved! Nice work! We're starting to create a little ecosystem around Emoji Domains and this is an important part of the equation.
I've been hard at work on the successor to https://❤️❤️❤️.ws, but seeing this makes me realize I missed something important: a place to share developed Emoji Domains with active projects on 'em. Might not make it into the first round of the re-launch, which (hopefully) will come in a few days, but it'll be a fast followup if it doesn't....
One interesting Emoji-Domain / forwarding idea I had was conditional forwarding: like, if the browser supports Emoji Domains, do one thing... otherwise, forward to a more addressbar friendly URL....
@jonroig I love it! It would be cool to aggregate emoji domains that are actively being developed into one easy-to-browse location. Almost like Product Hunt but for emoji domains!
Also that's a great idea re: browser-friendly URLs. So if your shortened link is http://📍.🎉🐙.ws and you know the browser won't properly render emoji (maybe based on User-Agent strings?), you could contextually return http://pin.mosho.ws, or something like that. I think @ericnakagawa touched on that with http://www.linkmoji.co minus the contextual part. Would be cool to play around with this idea.
Either way looking forward to your re-launch!
@eonpilot I don't know if it's the best, but the one I have yet to decipher the meaning of is http://🛩😭🤒.🎉🐙.ws
It's a casting call page for a TV adaptation of the Step Up movie series. The story the emojis tell is .. not as positive as I would expect for a lighthearted tale about dancers finding their way in the inner city!
