After Medis 1 has been around for 5 years, here comes Medis 2! Medis is a beautiful, easy-to-use Redis GUI management application for Redis. It's designed and developed by Redis experts, making it trustworthy even in critical situations.
Hi Product Hunt 👏,
Developer of Medis here. 5 years ago, I released the first version of Medis as an open-source project. It became popular pretty soon and has received 10k+ stars on GitHub (https://github.com/luin/medis) to date.
It was developed with front-end technologies such as Electron, ioredis, and ssh2. Thanks to the mature and popular Node.js ecosystem, Medis 1 attracted many contributors to add new features and fix bugs.
However, everything comes at a cost. Many contributors and I find that there are some limitations when it comes to performance and native UI. As a result, we decided to develop the next major version, Medis 2, with all native technologies, ...from scratch.
So here comes Medis 2! It provides a larger feature set and a delightful UI to work with. Additionally, as the author of ioredis (https://github.com/luin/ioredis), a popular Redis client, I kept the importance of performance in mind when developing Medis, so it can work well with production databases with millions of keys.
As we continue developing new features, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the new version, which is why it's posted here.
Thanks again for your interest, and thanks to the contributors of Medis 1 for their help!
@kishanbsh Hi Kishan, I totally agree with you! Unfortunately, there are no plans to support other platforms at the moment because of limited resources. I hope there will be opportunities in the future.
@zihua_li By the way, your website doesn't default to HTTPS, so when you click the link on the Github project, it will go to http://getmedis.com I recommend installing a redirect on your website so that http always gets redirected to https
@daandebie I just changed the setting so it should force HTTPS now. Thanks! There isn't a plan to open source Medis 2 at the moment but it is possible that it will be considered in the future 😄
Very good software I use everyday.
Out of curiosity: What's the technical stack behind it? Is it electron? or swift? I find it really powerful. Thanks!
