Matstad is a streaming service that focuses on food, travel, and other similar videos from YouTube. Users can upvote videos that they think should be shown first. Small channels can rise to the top simply by making things that the community wants to see.

I've been using Reddit for a couple of years now. and I've always been drawn to the simple system of upvotes and downvotes to rank content. It's because of this system that I think Reddit has one of the most loyal and passionate fanbases of all the social media platforms, users control what they see. It's a system that I wish could be adopted by other platforms such as youtube, which happens to be one of the most important. If YouTube used this system even in small areas of the site, like Trending, for example, I think users would be even more invested in the service than they currently are. Right now, the only thing preventing a mass exodus from YouTube is the lack of options. I like YouTube and want people to keep using it and this is me trying to create the Reddit experience for YouTube. An online democracy where every creator is equal. Where the views a video gets are based entirely on what the people think of the content and not on some algorithm that no one understands. There are no guessing games on Matstad, if the content rocks, it will be upvoted and seen, if it sucks, it will sink into obscurity. Please try it out and tell me what you think. Hey @kelodraken, absolutely love the concept behind your app. The idea of a community-focused video platform is unlike anything I've seen before, and does bring the heart back to what was once loved about YouTube. I believe you're on the right track, segregating video content into niches similar to Reddit is an amazing way to go (much better than what's being offered by other video hosting platforms). While the product may be in its early stage, I do see a lot of potential. One suggest I've got is to really focusing it down to serving each audience's niche, just like how Reddit has Subreddits. p.s. I don't know how to feel about the term, minimats

@theonikolai thanks for the feedback. yes, I think segregating the content into niches is the final form of the app. I'm actually working on that right now but I hadn't thought of a name for the communities yet. however I do like minimats, I hope you don't mind if I use it
