Marsbot for AirPods is your audio guide to the city. It’s not a walking tour, but rather a running commentary about interesting places you walk by on the street which is whispered into your AirPods or regular wired headphones.
I'm a big fan of audio-driven experiences. We need more exploration here.
I was an early beta tester and love the idea of turning cities into UGC "audio tours and recommendations". While very different than @andrewmason's Detour, it has a lot of similarities.
@rrhoover I'm so glad to see that @dens & co are taking a bite at this... if anyone can crack it, they can! When we built Detour, we loved the idea of "wander around and get little tidbits" idea but there was a chicken/egg problem as a startup in getting content saturation. Also we tried a couple of the apps that do that in specific neighborhoods and the novelty kinda wore off quickly. So we went for these epic highly produced hour-long walks, but that had it's own problems...
Looking forward to trying this!
@rrhoover@andrewmason Oh hey! Hope you're well! We *definitely* have the chicken/egg problem w/ user-generated audio, but as an R&D project we're just gonna roll the dice and see if it fixes itself organically. I think the new novel thing here is more: "it's NOT an on/off thing and an immersive experience ... it's an always-on thing and a very lightweight experience"
So much potential here — was cool to hear about this last year at Betaworks' Hearing Voices summit.
Augmented audio reality may be much easier to pull off than visual AR — if the latter requires the adoption of a new device formfactor (i.e. glasses).
