Mars26 is an open source Mars map in high-resolution, natural color. Built on top of previous CTX & Viking satellite photography, merged into an interactive map with full coverage. Zoom in, explore and place tweets at your favorite Mars locations.
Hi Product Hunt, welcome aboard Mars26. The rocket ship is fueled and we are ready for take-off… we will land on Mars in the year 2026.
But why wait for 5 more years? We built our Mars26 map with the goal of having you feel and explore Mars almost like you are already there in person, on the red planet.
As a group of space enthusiasts, we knew the Mars imagery out there, but also knew its shortcomings. And yes, there are great Mars maps. However, we saw the opportunity to better capture our feeling towards humanity's greatest exploration ever.
Existing maps simply couldn’t achieve this. Google’s Mars map uses outdated imagery from the ‘70s and while NASA’s site does let you choose from multiple resolutions, neither are in 3D nor natural colors combined with high resolution.
Landing on Mars26 you will see a natural color, high-resolution map of Mars. Soon updated in 3D and with a few fixes for the image layer itself.
I’m Space P, part of the collective developing Mars26, and I’d love to get people excited in deep space travel. After all, humans will walk on Mars in just 5 years. More info in our launch blog: https://medium.com/mars26/the-mo...
