Hi there! 👋 My name is Chris, and I'm the solo founder of madepublic.io, a platform for makers who want to build in public.
Have you ever heard the phrase "build in public"? It's a movement that's been gaining momentum in the maker community over the past few years, and for good reason. Building in public means sharing your work, your process, and your progress with the world as you go. 🌎
At first, it might seem counterintuitive to put your unfinished work out there for everyone to see. But the benefits of building in public are huge. For one, it helps you stay accountable to yourself and your audience. When you know that others are watching and cheering you on, it's much harder to procrastinate or give up on a project.
Building in public also allows you to get feedback and ideas from others who are following your journey. You might find that someone has a suggestion that you never would have thought of on your own or a UX suggestion that makes your product 10x easier to use. Maybe you're just having trouble picking between gainsboro or papaya whip for your background colour.
However, I noticed that Twitter, while massively used by the community, wasn't the best platform for building in public. Its lack of organization and overwhelming amount of tweets made it difficult to keep track of updates. Additionally, it lacked essential features for outlining and organising the project, like the tech stack, third-party tools used, and upcoming features.
That's why I created madepublic, a platform for makers who want to build in public. As a solo founder, I wanted a space where I could share my work and connect with a community of like-minded individuals. And now, I'm excited to share that space with you after 6 months of beta testing.
With madepublic, you'll have all the tools you need to showcase your work, get feedback, and connect with others who are on a similar journey. Project pages are built to showcase what a project is about, why it exists and what exactly goes into it including motivation, business areas, tech stack and social links. They also hold public task lists from users (soon-to-be fully-fledged roadmaps 👀). Users are able to post updates with images to their feed, follow other project updates and comment on each others updates as they go to help improve and request help on their products.
And for those who want to gain more visibility, project promotion is available for a small fee to get your project in front of more users on the madepublic homepage.
Whether you're a seasoned maker or just starting out, madepublic is here to support you every step of the way.
Let's build something amazing together! 🚀
Wow, sounds like an incredible platform! I'm definitely interested in learning more.
Can you tell me a bit about how it works? How does the task list feature work and what kind of feedback can users expect to get from other members of the community?
@heyumarkhan so happy to hear that!
Sure - the idea is to combat the issue that you get with randomly tweeting out project updates like people currently do on Twitter. Each user can create projects on the platform and post updates to their public page with all the updates and information relevant that they're willing to share - you can follow projects and the updates will appear on the homescreen feed.
The task list feature will be similar to how other products allow public roadmaps. Currently, in project whats-next pages you can see tasks categorised and setup as a to-do or a completed task. This exists today (and can be seen on the madepublic project page as an example in the red box!) but I'm going to be extending it to allow users to submit suggestions for things to work on and allow upvoting on tasks to let users tell the project maker what users really want to see!
It's gonna be a great way to gather information about what your users want in a really easy way!
The platform also allows commenting on each update which means you can discuss anything people post about their projects!
Hoping to see you on the platform Umar!
