Traditional dictionaries help you search words, but fail to make you retain them. ⠀ Lockcard is designed so that for every word you search, you are tested on how well you remember them over time, via quiz notifications. Download Lockcard now, it's free!
Hi PH! I'm Xinyi, and along with @leoisbiking I made Lockcard
The idea of Lockcard came about during my exchange year in Paris 🇫🇷. I was learning French vocabulary using paper flashcards and felt frustrated that even after a year of studying, I had barely reached the level I originally wanted.
At that moment I felt like abandoning, so naturally, I take out my phone to check for notifications from my friends. Suddenly, an idea sparks in my mind...
"What if notifications could be used to help me review vocabulary?"
Since Americans check their phone 96 times a day, why don't we leverage those 96 screen looks to review information quickly and help our brain retain it in our long-term memory?

Just viewing is not enough to learn effectively. Our quiz/flashcard notification system is based on cognitive research around Testing Effect and Spaced Repetition, which makes it an effective solution for busy people or those of us who easily lose motivation.
Currently, Lockcard is only for English But we're planning to launch in other languages. I will be very interested in learning about what else you would like to learn with Lockcard!
Thank you for stopping by ✨
Hello! While Xinyi is the brain behind Lockcard, I can tell you more about how it works:
Lockcard is the most innovate way to learn English vocabulary. We reimagined the Dictionary to help you search and retain new words effortlessly, using a unique system of flashcard notifications.
HOW IT WORKS
1) Search a word in our dictionary
2) Receive a quiz notification for that word
3) Test your memory from your lock screen
4) Repeat until you master it!
What's coming soon?
Tbh, we're sill figuring out Lockcard's real value prop, and we're testing a new version where users can download lists of vocabulary based on exam or field of study (IELTS, Business, Law, design...). If you'd benefit from this, or know someone who would, contact me!
@leoisbiking@xinyi_fu The idea to use the lock screen productively is amazing. It was right in front of our eyes and yet I never realized the power of it. Best of luck with your product. Put it out for android soon :D
Awesome to see the app on here! Been using it since day one on the App Store. Thanks Leo and Xinyi, I can now throw in fancy words here and there when I meet new people ;)
