Hi guys!
Founder of Life by Superfuture Labs here. I was hoping to get some feedback on this fun new project we’ve been working on called Life. Life’s mission is to live stream the world and create magical, meaningful shared live video moments.
For the past few years I’ve been obsessed with live video—ever since watching the documentary by Josh Harris called “We Live in Public”. He live streamed his life, his apartment and poured all of his tech money into this concept, 20 years ago pre-YouTube stars. He eventually drove himself crazy live streaming his life 24/7. It is an amazing story and would greatly recommend watching it. “Being John Malkovich” also covers this where we are able to look into the eyes of someone else. And are raises the philosophical question if we in control of our lives or is it the combined influence of others.
Life is the closest thing to teleportation. Imagine if you were able to share a moment in time with your favorite celebrity. Whether it is as mundane as brushing your teeth with Obama in the morning. Warhol also thought a lot about these shared live raw moments with video. Snapchat video also opened this window, realizing that people are more engaged to watch raw unfiltered moments and not the glimpse of the glossy filtered social media life. It is often what people most connect with and like most about a person.
The problem with Periscope and Meerkat is that they don’t do a good job at discovery. Life makes it easy to zoom in and out of people’s eyes around the world, creating shared experiences. And we are working on more ways to do this even better and faster.
We are at the beginning, and I feel like live video space is the same space now as the search field was in 1999 with Google being the 9th search engine, and when Instagram was another photo sharing app—ripe for opportunity.
I look forward to it, ask me anything!
Best,
Joey Primiani
