Hey PH! Lens maker is here. Lens is a fun project that was born from a single tweet. It might sound ridiculous, but there was no simple image converter for macOS. So I decided to make this little app and write about acquiring ideas from existing tools. Lens is only available for Mac because I love that native macOS feeling. I wanted it to be as light as possible, with no extra knobs or something. Just drop a file, or a bunch of them, and get the desired result. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. The idea behind the app is that there's plenty of supercharged apps we use daily, that lacking the UI. Some of them wouldn't ever need it, but I bet that some would. @lepikhinb1 "I wanted it to be as light as possible, with no extra knobs or something" — and yet it's 100MB to download? Also, I found a much easier way to achieve this by creating Automator workflows and then dropping them into ~/Library/Services, which makes them available via option-click. It doesn't get much more native than that?

@chrismessina You're right, I only meant the UI. The idea was pretty spontaneous, you can read about it in my blog post, and the Automator thing is applicable to the approach. I mean, I'm still ok with using lots of CLI tools, but someone isn't. Also the only tool I'm that familiar with for building desktop apps is Electron. So yeah, 100mb is the smallest I could do :)

@lepikhinb1 @chrismessina I love using the Quick Actions. If you have Pixelmator Pro installed, you can even add the ML super resolution action to enlarge images.

@lepikhinb1 Really simple, and beautifully executed. I love the simplicity. Great job! Just tried Lens on a bunch of transparent PNG files to convert to JPG. The transparency was converted to black, is there a way to change the colour that transparency is converted to?

@craigcpaterson Just shipped a quick update, now it makes the background white by default. You can either download it from a website, or launch an app and wait for the update notification to appear.

@lepikhinb1 ah, didn't noticed it! Tried it on a HEIC-file, but that's seems not possible? Works on jpg-files though!
