Hey everyone! I'm Jon from jon&jess! Good surprise to see us on Product Hunt today! Jess and I were tired of not having a good solution for profile picture placeholders as we were building product with user profiles, so we decided to design our own and make it easy to use - both in mock designs or in an actual app through an easy API. The ways to get an avatar are basically as follows: https://joeschmoe.io/api/v1/:any...: to get a random (but consistent) Schmoe. This one is the most useful, as you'll always get the same Schmoe from the same string. That gives consistency for the same profile, but diversity between different https://joeschmoe.io/api/v1/:name: to get a specific Schmoe (jon, jess, see the list on the website!) https://joeschmoe.io/api/v1/random to get a random one https://joeschmoe.io/api/v1/male... to get a random male https://joeschmoe.io/api/v1/fema... to get a random female We're still working hard both on designing more avatars and also cutting them all down into reusable pieces so you can build your own or generate an (almost) infinite amount of random, silly avatars!
