Jiffy Reader is a browser extension that allows you to read any website faster. We do this by selectively bolding certain parts of some words since the bottleneck while reading is your eyes, not your brain.

Good morning Product Hunt! 👋 First off, thank you for hunting us @chrismessina 🏆 Everyone has seen that picture of garbled text wherein certain letters were misplaced within a paragraph (https://www.independent.co.uk/ne...). It really shows us that our brain has an immense amount of processing power. We created Jiffy Reader last weekend as we saw that this trick floating around the internet of selectively highlighting certain parts of the the beginning of words to be able to read faster. Then we realized that this whole time our eyes were like crutches for our brain, slowing down our reading speed immensely! Just like how our brain can process when text is garbled, it really speeds up by almost "autocompleting" text after seeing only the first few letters. After releasing Jiffy Reader as an open source project (https://github.com/ansh/bionic-r...), that simply bolded half of each word, we got a lot of people contributing to our project. The open source community built most of it out, big kudos to them! So, we decided to package it up as a Chrome Extension so that anyone could easily download it. Initial feedback from people using this extension is massively positive! It has been especially useful for those who have a hard time focusing or those with ADHD*. The best way to get the most up-to-date version of Jiffy Reader is still by downloading it from Github (https://github.com/ansh/bionic-r...) but we have also launched it on the Chrome Web Store (https://chrome.google.com/websto...) and hope to release it for Firefox and Safari soon. If you like what we have created here, would really appreciate you to contribute to the Github project and/or download the extension from the Chrome Web Store! * We have not done any medical studies, this is just feedback from people via email and on various social networks.

Don't want to be a showstopper, but this is the official implementation from the afaik "official" inventor: https://bionic-reading.com/. Note, that they also published a chrome extension. Otherwise great job! I love it when people are just starting to build products! :)

@ludwig_stumpp I'm super confused. is this the official version? because https://bionic-reading.com/ is showing a different chrome extension and I saw a lot of patent emphasis on that site. would this be a patent infringement ?

@ludwig_stumpp reason I ask is that this Jiffy Reader works better for me than the one on bionic-reading.com

AFAIK bionic-reading is the original company behind it. According to the statement, the inventor spent a lot of time researching this, also in official studies. I am not a law expert, so I don't know what the legal consequences are. At best, the creators of this extension here somehow find a way to collaborate with the original author :). I can see both sides. However, one quick google search and you will find that bionic-reading is the real company behind it. The creators at least could have mentioned the site and that the idea is not from them, but copied from the original author. The way it is right now, I find it very disappointing!

@jhon_alino That is indeed a good thing, and I stronly believe in propgress by competition! :) However you also need to see the original author spending lots and lots of time and money (assuming what he writes on his site is correct) and then seeing that others are publishing his idea (assuming that this is correct again) to be their own.
