iShowU V6 is a versatile macOS realtime, layer based, screen recording tool. It lets you focus on specific apps or windows, and offers social media-ready features for creating engaging content. Supports app audio capture with no drivers required.
Hi Everyone,
I'm Neil Clayton, the founder of shinywhitebox, the company behind iShowU, and the primary author of all its products.
We have been working on various iterations of iShowU since 2006, and over that time have talked with thousands of users about what they need in a screen recording tool.
iShowU V6 is the result of that feedback, and I'm excited to share it with you today.
Why V6?
iShowU V6 is a reimagining of what a screen recording tool can be.
We've taken your feedback and have crafted a tool that addresses the needs of both casual and professional users.
iShowU has always been about making it easy to capture what you want, when you want, how you want. Now. RIGHT now. Instantly.
V6 is no different, but brings new features to the table, such as:
- Realtime, *layer based* screen recording
- Focus on specific apps or windows (you can now record *just* the things you want)
- AI based background removal & built in background masks
- App audio capture with no need for additional drivers (yay!)
- Both 'simple' & 'pro' UIs, in a single application (to make it more accessible, to more people)
I invite you to download and try iShowU V6 today. Your feedback has been instrumental in shaping this product,
and it will continue to guide us as we work to make iShowU even better. Let me know your thoughts, suggestions, or any questions you may have in the comments below.
@amit_arora unfortunately not. it'd be a massive undertaking (V6 alone took me about 9 months full time, using a rather large set of API's that I don't think exist on windows!)... I'd like to, but I need more hands!
This looks fantastic, Neil! The layer-based recording and AI background removal sound like game changers to me.
Questions:
- How does the app handle performance when recording in real-time, especially with multiple layers and effects?
- Also, I'm curious about the app audio capture. How seamless is the integration without needing additional drivers?
Congrats on the launch!
@kyrylosilin 1) performance. It's using a metal based renderer. So there is a bit of overhead, but it's not bad. This is something I'll continue to performance tune as time goes on. Technically: you're only overlaying many 2d textures; so by todays standards, that's not that much "GPU" work. 2) it uses Apples new SCKit to get the audio. This is then run through a custom "mixer" graph that I wrote; to merge any number of devices and any number of channels down to 2ch (each with their own volume settings and such)
Congrats!🎉 I'm currently using Screen Studio. "A variety of masks, including AI driven background removal" sounds like a nice feature. Following the mouse is a function that I definitely need to use. I don't know if iShowU V6 supports it?
@zenda1122 not yet but I'm working on it. 1.0.13 for example has dynamic zoom (hold the option key to zoom in on whatever you're capturing). This happens ONLY in the recording, but you can add a "selection highlighter" as well - see https://youtu.be/4taN_Ln59Vs?si=...
