A browser extension to help you find quality, independent wikis while avoiding the bloat of corporate wiki farms. It'll redirect you from Fandom to indie wikis; filter search engine results; and integrates with BreezeWiki, an alternative frontend for Fandom.
If you've ever looked up info about your favorite games or movies, you've probably come across large corporate wiki farms like Fandom and Fextralife. While these sites are home to some great communities and editors, these platforms are unfortunately filled with ads and feature bloat, and regularly implement changes that go against their readers and editors. Outside of Fandom and Fextralife is a world of quality, independently-run wikis (think sites like runescape.wiki, minecraft.wiki, theinfosphere.org, c64-wiki.com, and the independent Nintendo wikis). Unfortunately these independent wikis and communities are often missed by users as Fandom tends to dominate Google search results.
Indie Wiki Buddy helps you discover these independent wikis you might otherwise miss. When you visit a wiki on Fandom or Fextralife, this extension will notify or automatically redirect you to one of 200+ quality independent wikis when they're available. Search results in seven search engines (including Google, Bing, and DuckDuckGo) can also be filtered, replacing non-independent wikis with text inviting you to visit an independent counterpart.
You're also in full control -- you can choose your experience wiki-by-wiki.
Indie Wiki Buddy also supports BreezeWiki (https://breezewiki.com/), an alternative frontend that renders Fandom wikis without ads or bloat. This helps give you a more enjoyable reading experience when an independent wiki isn't available.
I created and launched Indie Wiki Buddy a year ago. It's had a lot of enhancements, new features, and wiki additions since then, and is now at a point that I'd like to push it more widely. If you're a regular user of fan wikis, I hope this extension helps you out!
