@andreschule An exchange holds your crypto for you and has custody over your funds, if they are hacked or shut down you're at risk. Personal storage can take a lot of effort to manage and hardware is prone to breakage or loss. Gridlock uses distributed key generation to ensure your private key is never in one location. This prevents any of the shortcomings involved with the existing options!

There are such questions: What happens when you need to use the private key, is this run automatical operation on gathering parts together from friends?

@ayauho This is entirely automated, yes. The intention of the app is the distribution of security, however we don’t want to bother your guardians (or friends) with simple transactions. We have guardians to help protect you from suspicious transactions.

@charlie_gridlock What if a hacker will decide to gather parts of keys from friends, hacking the app of a user? I would like to clearify, if a user stores its own private key on the app and this is not safe bacause a hacker is able to hack an app and receive the key, what is the difference, if a hacker is able to hack the app is the similar way and gather a key from a user's friends?

@ayauho To get a private key, the hacker would have to track down the devices of both the user AND the people protecting them. The value of the system is that there are pieces of the key on different devices, with different operating systems, on different hardware, in different places around the world. This greatly increases the effort required to get one key, ASSUMING they were able to breach our system.

@charlie_gridlock It seems, that you did not understand correctly me. Hacker shouldn't to hack all devices, hacker needs to hack only device of a target user and run algorithm on target user device which will collect parts of the key from friend's devices. Hacker may initiate command on the victim device "collect parts of key" using access to your app. Let me clearify it finally. If a hacker has access to app, hacker can or 1) Steal a private key in the app's storage 2) Run command "collect a private key from friends" which are almost the same tasks if you have access to the app. To solve this issue, there should be additional password, to decrypt encrypted parts which after their receiving. And user should input this password each time.
