GrammarBot is a MacOS app that checks your English grammar and suggests a corrected version, fixing misspelled words, typos, or grammar mistakes. It works with a local AI model, so there's no need for subscriptions or an internet connection.
As a native speaker, I can say that the program is useful even for me. Over time, you can forget some basic rules, but this thing really makes your text more grammatically correct in just a few minutes 👏
Hi Product Hunt! English is not my first language, but I communicate in English most of my day: Slack, X, emails, reddit, etc. And I always double-check my English before posting or sending a message. So, I built an AI app to help me with that!
The cool thing is that it works with a local AI model, so it doesn't use Internet connection, and the information doesn't leave my laptop.
The techy story:
I was blown away the first time I ran a local LLM, how is it possible that "ChatGPT" is running in my laptop like every other app? I started digging into that and released an open-source app to download and run local LLMs. But, like all the other apps at the moment, it was kind of confusing for a regular user, with the continues release of new AI models, each one with a more confusing name, it was hard to know which one to choose. So, I decided to build the first commercial local LLM app that's easy to use for normal humans. I needed a simple, but useful task, and to scratch my own itch: grammar checker. This is my first product trying to use local LLMs to solve real problems in a simple manner. I expect to launch more soon (I'm already building the next one). DMs are open if you have any app in mind that you would like to run locally in your computer.
For the curious, it's built in Rust.
@julioandresdev Congratulations on the launch of your local LLM app for grammar checking! 🎉 It's fantastic to see how you've harnessed the power of AI to simplify language correction for everyday communication. Here's to empowering users to communicate confidently in English, without compromising privacy or connectivity. 🚀💬
This pitch is amazing. Sold me with just 1 sentence: 'Write flawless English with AI, no subscriptions, offline'
My second question after seeing this was 'Which friends can I send this too' and that was answered in the FAQs :)
I'd love if the M1, M2, M3 aspect could be highlighted a bit more? https://shot.screenden.com/RstjnMcz
Just would help people know instantly who they can share it with/who can use it.
Brilliant idea again, congrats on your launch!
