Streamers keep their data hidden. Goodviews aggregates millions of public data points like search trends, social media activity, and downloads to create comprehensive Billboard-like charts for 750+ television series.
Hi Product Hunt!
We built Goodviews to discover which TV shows are actually the most popular each day.
We were frustrated that many of the newer streaming networks -- including Netflix and Amazon Prime Video -- release very little data about the popularity of their shows. My wife is a TV writer (currently on Bosch), so the problem hits close to home. There have been countless times when we’ve tried to figure out how shows are performing with very little luck.
When networks do release their data, they publish only vanity metrics from their best performing content. When we browse their lineups, we’re stuck with their recommendation algorithms. At best, we’re watching what they want us to see. At worst, these algorithms create filter bubbles that can cause us to lose sight of what other people are watching and engaging with.
With Goodviews, we track shows by their online audience engagement. We start by scraping millions of public data points including search trends, social media activity, torrent downloads, and website traffic. We then weigh this data based on its quality and relevance to create daily popularity charts. We’re constantly updating and adding data to make sure the charts are as accurate as possible.
For TV fans, we hope that Goodviews will help you find new shows to watch and better understand the shows you’re already a fan of.
As the TV revenue model moves further towards streaming subscriptions, engagement and buzz are becoming more important than ever. Passive viewership has worked fine for advertising, but it does not work well for subscriptions. Subscribers are won through buzz and word of mouth. We’re rolling out a Goodviews Pro subscription with access to more historical data, additional comparison tools, and more results in charts.
My partner on Goodviews is @shahruz. We were both part of the founding team at Super Deluxe and also worked at BuzzFeed, Earwolf, and on a bunch of independent projects including this one.
