Gobillion is the Pinduoduo for India, we make e-commerce social for the next 400M customers in small towns in India and enable them to buy together in groups for great deals!
For most Indian customers in small towns, shopping has always been a social experience with friends and family - customers in Tier 2+ cities in India prefer great deals augmented by a social shopping experience.
OUR STORY:
We, Roshan(CEO) and Kulapradip (CTO) of Gobillion have been close friends from the past 15+ years. We pursued undergrad in Computer Science & Engineering together and grew up in small towns in India.
It all started last year in 2020, when I called up Kulapradip to ask for his recommendation on the best health supplements to use. While I was browsing multiple online platforms, Kulapradip’s personal shopping recommendation mattered to me. I actually ended up buying the product what Kulapradip recommended to me and got a good deal as well!
This experience however stuck with us - we realized that this need for social recommendation + great deals is intrinsic to millions of Indian customers.
CUSTOMER PROBLEM:
• The next wave of 400M online customers from Tier 2+ cities in India who are coming online for the first time, have a very different set of aspirations and needs while shopping online (which the incumbent model of e-commerce does not serve effectively)
• Shopping is a social activity for customers in small towns in India but the social recommendation based e-commerce model in India hasn't been tapped properly yet
• Customers want (i) great deals/discounts and a (ii) social experience/recommendation from close friends/family around their online purchases
• A large chunk of retail sector in India is unorganized and consumers rely heavily on social recommendations to initiate transactions
OUR SOLUTION
• Customers can unlock deals on their groceries and daily essentials (and save upto ~25% or more) and drive lower pricing by buying together in social groups (“TeamBuy”)
• Team purchase helps solve the “trust deficit” of online retail in small towns in India as customers buy within trusted social circles
• Create a family and friends oriented fun shopping experience, incentivize shared buying through deals and discounts
JOURNEY SO FAR
• We are focused in East India initially with a large captive target customer base which is traditionally underserved, we have launched our app in Guwahati, India (a fast growing city of 2M population in East India) as the first launch city, and the initial category being grocery and daily essentials
• Our growth has been pretty phenomenal over the last few months! We are super excited to build the #1 social buying platform for customers in Tier 2+ cities in India!
Dear folks! We are changing the way people in small towns in India shops online by giving them a fun and discovery based Shopping experience rather than a search based platform. We enable our users to fulfil their intrinsic need of social purchase with the recommendation from their peers!
