Capture and share hilarious (heartwarming? exhilarating?) moments effortlessly with Gifcake. With a single tap, record a few seconds of video to save and send to your friends and family as an endlessly-looping GIF. Gifcake: making GIFs a piece of cake.
Hey all! A bit about Gifcake: I first made it for my own personal use, because I wanted a way to very quickly snap a few seconds of footage—mostly of my often-hilarious dog and equally-hilarious friends—to share as looping GIFs with close friends and family, primarily through messaging apps.
My requirements for the app were roughly as follows:
- It had to be ready to record immediately upon open. Lag isn’t acceptable when you’re quickly pulling out your phone to capture a spontaneous moment.
- For the same reason, it had to be obvious how to use and easy to use with one hand without fumbling with UI.
- It had to use a universal format (GIF) that could be opened by anyone anywhere, regardless of device.
- It had to prioritize saving GIFs before sharing them, so you could go back through them and watch them and share them with anyone you might think to share with later.
The result was this single-purpose app that I think serves its single purpose reasonably well: it opens instantly, it can be used by tapping anywhere on the screen, and it doesn’t have any excess UI or fanfare or anything. I ended up using it all the time, and I hope you all find it equally enjoyable and useful!
Paul is my friend.
He made an awesome app that lets you make GIFs in a jiffy.
I forced him to let me launch it on Product Hunt because it's so good.
