Generator

Hey everyone! My name is Alex, I am the developer of Generator. Often when designing in Figma one has to draw a lot of something repeatedly, while changing some property slightly. This is tedious by hand, and almost impossible to play with as variations require a lot of work. There are plugins to solve this issue for a limited number of certain tasks, but I wanted a plugin that would let you automatically draw anything you want while giving you total control of the logic. Once you can automate Figma with logic, the possibilities are endless, so of course I had to add text etc. Generator is also very good for web colors, color systems, etc. You can do _limited_ dataviz. The reason for that is that Figma's plugin API only lets me update objects one by one (redrawing the layers panel in the process), and especially with text this can get very slow. So large datasets are possible, but they're slow. Smaller datasets are fine, and the benefit is that the results are all editable Figma objects right on the canvas, including skewed text. So what Generator makes can be used as the starting state, refined by hand using Figma's standard tools. Beyond these pragmatic things, it turns out to be pretty good at generative art. The product is only recently out of stealth and there's a lot still to be done, but I would love to build a community around it that will help me develop it to its full potential.
