@royabhiofficial thanks so much! Yeah, that’s exactly the problem we’re trying to help people solve. You can’t control the price of gas, but you can control how efficiently you use it. And FuelStar shows you exactly how to do that!
👋 Hi Product Hunt,
Rafi here! I, and the FuelStar team here at Cambridge Mobile Telematics https://www.cmtelematics.com/ are incredibly excited to share FuelStar with the Product Hunt community and with the world.
🤔 The problem we're solving
As we watched gas prices climbing over the last many months, we wanted to do something to help people take back control of their fuel spending.
When we looked at the data on FuelEconomy.gov (https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/...) we were surprised at just how much the way you drive impacts how much you spend on gas. By simply cutting back on aggressive driving - high speeds, braking and acceleration - you can save up to 40% on gas. That is way more than you can save by driving all over town to find the cheapest gas.
Most cars tell you your MPG, but they don't show you exactly how much money you could be saving by driving more efficiently. Nor do they show you exactly how to change your driving to save on gas.
💡 How we're solving it
We built FuelStar to help people everywhere take control of gas spending by coaching them to drive more efficiently. And to show people the actual money they’re saving by driving like a…FuelStar.
Here’s how it works:
• FuelStar uses your phone’s sensors to automatically measure your driving efficiency
• FuelStar breaks down each trip to show how much you saved or overpaid for gas based on your driving
• FuelStar shows you exactly what to do to save more on gas by driving smarter
• FuelStar coaches you in realtime via friendly audio alerts to help you pinpoint inefficient driving
• FuelStar shows you exactly how much you’re saving by driving like a FuelStar
💻 How the tech works
The foundation of FuelStar is CMT's mobile telematics platform that powers safe driving programs for many of the largest insurers, ridesharing companies and auto manufacturers in the world. CMT's platform uses sensor data and machine learning to automatically record driving, classify whether you're in a car or other mode of transit, predict whether you're the driver or the passenger, and detect all kinds of things about your driving (speeding, braking, accelerating, etc).
For FuelStar, we layered on a new ML model that takes in information about your specific vehicle (things like engine size, weight, drag, etc) and combines that with data about your actual driving to predict how much gas you consumed on a given trip in your car (and using just your phone - no hardware required).
We then factor in gas prices in your area, your trip distance and do some math to show you exactly how much (in dollars and cents!) you saved or overpaid on your trip. And how much you're saving or overpaying in total.
FuelStar also features realtime audio alerts (using on-phone ML models) for high speed, acceleration and braking. Don't worry - they're not tooo naggy :-) We've run large-scale studies and found that providing this kind of realtime alerting is really effective in helping people to change their driving habits.
🏆 The impact it can make
The result is a win-win-win for society: drivers can save big $$ on gas, safer roads for everyone (because efficient driving is also safe driving!), and reduced carbon emissions.
⛽️ About the design
FuelStar’s design is a nod to hitting the road: illustrations that hint at a good old fashioned road trip and the familiarity of the digital gas signs seen all across the country. Green is used throughout to highlight the potential gas savings users can get by driving more efficiently.
We really hope you like FuelStar! And we'd love your feedback and ideas for how we can make it more awesome here or at support@getfuelstar.com.
Thank you,
